Today is the last day of week 3 and today was the day of my weekly mentor meeting. Today we discussed about my blog (this blog) and what I can do to improve it. We also created some questions about my lines of inquiry.
Today our homeroom teacher was absent so the whole afternoon was in the library. Today I collected a lot of information about the impacts of non-renewable energy sources on the environment. I won’t put the information down on my blog post because there’s a lot and it will be too long. I like this website because it gives a lot of information that I didn’t get from other websites. I read the infographic for UNSDG number 7 which is affordable & clean energy. I like infographs because they are very informative as well as they’re interesting. They also tell a lot of facts so it makes my research a little easier.

Today our library teacher came to our class to show us on how to cite sources. I have started to put some links on my bibliography page. We used some citing websites which are:
I like the second and the forth one because they're pretty easy to use and I usually use the second one first and then if there's a problem I will use the first one first then I will use the forth one. You can check out my bibliography page because I added a few links already. I also added the drop down pages in my knowledge page and you can check out my knowledge page because I added my central idea. I also watched a video about Greta Thunberg on TheEllenShow. Today my class started thinking about our exhibition assessment criteria. I think that we thought of some pretty good ones and I think that we should work more towards that area. Every Wednesday it’s a busy day so I didn’t have as much time as usual. Today I had a meeting with my teacher about how I’m doing and what point I’m at. We discussed on my central idea and lines of inquiry. I chose my central idea and lines of inquiry. I chose: Central Idea: Thinking critically about how we use energy can help promote a better future. Lines of Inquiry: 1. The effects of non-renewable energy sources on the environment. (Causation) 2. People’s access to sustainable energy. (Perspective) 3. Our responsibility to increase our use of sustainable energy sources. (Responsibility) Other than that in the meeting we looked at some infographics to get some ideas for my mathematics piece for my exhibition. Today I also watched a video about someone named Illac Diaz that created lights out of reused plastic water bottles for the poor families in Manilla. I will put the video down here 👇 Today I didn’t go to school because it was raining heavily so my mom was afraid that it was going to flood, so I did my work at home. Today I wrote down more ideas for my central idea and my lines of inquiry. The line of inquiry choice I wrote down today is: -Why we should increase our use of renewable energy sources. It is connected to key concept of responsibility. I wrote down 2 different central idea choices, which are: -Having wiser decisions and logical thinking about our use of non-renewable energy sources will help promote renewable energy. -Increasing our use of renewable energy sources will supply an unlimited amount of energy for the future. I also wrote more about fossil fuels, how you get it and where it’s from. Afterwards, I watched a video called “22 inventions that are saving the earth”. It was a really interesting and cool video, you can watch it down below👇
Today we started to look deeply into exhibition. We started to think about our central idea and lines of inquiry. We used the hexagonal method to brainstorm keywords for our central idea and lines of inquiry. Some lines of inquiry that I brainstormed were:
-The effects of non-renewable energy sources. -The similarities and differences between renewable and non-renewable energy sources. -Our responsibility tor increase our use of renewable energy sources. I also wrote one idea for my central idea which is: -Non-renewable energy sources have a great impact on the world I think it’s a very good idea for my central idea. This morning I filled in a self assessments about my blog . I wrote that I think I need help writing in by bibliography page. I also thought that receiving other people’s feedback will improve my blog, so everyone who’s reading this please give me some feedback!!! This week was the week of finding out about my topic. I did a lot of research about my questions and I had my first mentor meeting. Today was my meeting and I went to my mentor’s class and sat down with her to talk about what I have done that week and where I am now. We discussed about some other questions that are some other important parts of my topic. Afterwards, we decided our essential agreements for our mentor meeting and we dismissed our meeting. Overall I think that our meeting went well I think in future meetings we will have more to talk about. I think that my research is going well and I’m looking forward to my exhibition! Today was probably the shortest exhibition research day in this week. We just had 2 periods (1 hour 20 min) to research and answer some of our questions.
Today I did a lot of research about “What are the pros and cons of renewable and non-renewable energy sources?” This is what I have written down: Renewable Energy (Pros) -Has a smaller impact on the environment -Will never run out -Doesn’t cost much money to run -Reduce our needs Renewable Energy (Cons) -Sometimes it’s not very reliable -Very expensive to build -Produces much less energy Non-renewable Energy (Pros) -Usually very reliable -Produces much more energy Non-Renewable Energy (Cons) -Usually has a bigger impact on the environment -Will eventually run out -More expensive -Hazardous waste might be produced Source: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/z8k9v9q/revision/1 I also did some research about “What do non-renewable energy sources do to the environment?” This is what I found: Fossil Fuels (Coal,Oil,Natural Gas): -Releases Carbon Dioxide (aka CO2 or Greenhouse gas) when burnt Nuclear -Releases Sulphur Dioxide (aka SO2 or acid rain) when burnt Source: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/z8k9v9q/revision/2 Today we had pajama day at school, so it was a fun day. Today we started to organize our notes and questions. I made a table in pages because I personally like that way of organizing things. We also made a PicCollage about our topic. We just had to write the topic and some pictures regarding our topic. In art class I made my logo about the UNSDG but it’s not finished because I still have to paint it. I am happy with my logo and I think I did a good job on creating my logo. Because it’s Literacy Week there are some storytellers and performances. Today was the Indonesian Drama performed by the Year 10 students. I found it very funny. Today was a busy yet not so busy day. Today we met our mentors and we had a little chat with them. We made some questions related to our key concepts which are Responsibility, Form, Change, Perspective, Function, Causation and Connection. We created questions relevant to our topic. Those questions will be our guiding questions for our exhibition. We spent the first two periods working on this. In art class we are going to recreate logos about the UN sustainable development goal related to our topic. So that’s pretty much what we did today.
Today I chose my exhibition topic. I chose non-renewable energy. I chose that topic because I don’t really know much about this topic and it’s a big issue in where I am. This week is a busy week because it’s Literacy Week. So our schedule is jam packed and this week my reflections will be a lot shorter than usual. But back to the topic yes I have chosen my main focus for exhibition! Today we created some questions about our topic. I also put the key concepts related to my questions. I will be making my central idea and my lines of inquiry later on. So that’s my reflection for today!
